Nascar, child support and entertainment
We are all the same in God’s eyes and for people to make an argument out of race these days it validates the fact that “America” has turned it’s head to every dishonorable thing that happens in our own yard. I can hear the guys at the barbershop say, “Heck ‘America’ don’t give a hoot for it’s own people, because we spend more time fixing the neighborhood than we do our own yard.” Hurricane Katrina taught a lesson to the world, that America has a poverty problem. The Muslim world views us as rich, fat, infidels who whore our children to feed our greed, and they are not far off. I had an Muslim Indonesian tell me that the world hates us, because they all see the entertainment industry (film, television, sports, pornography, travel, religion) as a personification of our hearts and they detest our pride in being eccentric in our exploits; while they see poverty, poor living conditions and tyrannical governments. America rewards futile pursuits such as the entertainment industry life style while there is actual need for education, food and shelter all around. There are no televised red carpet ceremonies for Cancer researchers or Teachers, but there are for “athletes*”, preachers, rich people and singers.
Why is it so hard for people to really see what is and has been going on for centuries. Rich people in power will design a system of rules so the power stays with them and those not powerful or privileged enough to have status can earn their keep by working for the same system that keeps them down. We have a system that is driving a wedge between families with rules and laws concerning parental visitation rights because Mother’s choose to accept help from the government in the form of welfare, which encourages that they must first pursue child support from the father in order to receive benefits. The government is then providing care for the child and mandates child support be paid, enforces that mandate with jail time, loss of property and possessions as a punishment for not being able to or not being financially responsible. Most dead beat dads feel that they are already beat dead by the system, why try, I can’t show my face to my kids out of shame because the government and their Mom already told them I am not worth it.” This is an example of an unjust system because no one has charged the government on not being financially responsible for it’s own kids (failed government programs, non-effective departments, jails and transportation administration). Men of America are often forced to survive off of illegal means because the legal way or the system is set up so that half of their income is taken up to the amount they owe in child support, by that time most mothers use the “well you are not going to see the kids until you pay child support” method of communication and the wedge is driven even further between biological family. The system supports the mothers right to say that and backs it up with law enforcement which proceeds to make criminals out of uneducated poor men.
This is the same government who’s military pays for advertising for their Armed Forces in excess of 20 million dollars each year. The Army, my former branch of service, has a race car in the Nascar circuit and finds it to be one of the best forms of advertising next to its online game America’s Army. The irony here is that our tax dollars are supporting an entertainment industry which makes billions off of our own people who pay good money to watch grown men drive in circles for hours wasting gas, so they can win more money than most grown men earn in 5 to 8 years. This same billion dollar industry has a 3000% markup for goods and services, and the majority of the money goes to people who already have millions. We need to stop putting any financial rewards with entertainment and focus them on education. I remember in High School that our counselors would tell us that only an education would make us any real money, but our society told me that I could do anything other than that and make millions as long as I could get noticed. The latest American Idol winner received more votes than any American Presidential Candidate for a reason: convenience, actual talent and exposure due to advertising.
